Garfield, one of Alex's favorites... nothing more than a marketing ploy. There was no cat comic strip, so Jim Davis, Mr. Marketing Genius, decided to invent a bland one. Turns out he spends almost all of his time on marketing, rather than writing and illustrating. He probably has a lot in common with Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert. Here it is, courtesy of Dan, Jim Davis Exposed.

  1. So that Garfield page-a-day 1994 calendar was just a cheap merchandising ploy? My childhood has been forever tainted...

  2. I read that article when it came out, and thought it was really weird. My reaction was like, "hey, I actually like Garfield."
